Amazing... great thoughts originating in India ...

The recent article by Fareed Zakaria in Newsweek, Nov 30, "The Prize is India", writes of how India's interests in Afghanistan are the same as US' - to defeat the Taliban and to support the elected Afghan govt.
Indian Govt's aid to Afghanistan has largely gone to build schools and infrastructure. While Pakistan on one hand is fighting the Pakistani Taliban in Waziristan ( with an eye on the liberal US funding to keep a failed state going), it has not touched the Afghani Taliban in Baluchistan !! The prize US can expect by its intervention in Afghanisattan is not only Afghanistan but also a friendly, peaceloving, strong and democratic India. By supporting Indian actions in Afghanistan, and engaging Pakistan to finish off the Afgani version of Taliban, US will be eyeing on an early diplomatic and military settlement of the issue.
Quote : Obama must keep in mind that South Asia is a tar pit filled with failed and dysfunctional states save for one long established democracy of 1.2 billion people that is the second fastest growing major economy in the world, a check on China's rising ambitions and a natural ally of the United States. - unquote.
Just ahead of Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to US, all major news media have reported highly of the meeting of the leaders of the world's two major democracies.
The declaration beforehand of UN Summit at CopenHagen on Global Climate by US, China and India to bring about exacting cuts in emissions from 17 % (US) to 40 % (China) and India (about 30-50%) by 2020 on 2005 levels, is a positive sign that the major economies can indeed work together and they mean business !!

The Copen Hagen UN Summit, 7-18 December 2009, will see China also agreeing to reduce its CO2 emissions to 50 % of the 2005 levels by year 2020. But China uses a different measure of pollution standard which is directly related with the economic might of the country, ie GDP. Carbon Intensity is the amount of CO2 emitted for each unit of GDP.
US has agreed to reduce the CO2 emissions by 17 % of 2005 levels by year 2020.
Pressure is thus mounting on India the other major international player to come up with some limits to bring down CO2 emissions.

Dubai World and Nakheel Properties are asking for $60 b of their debts to be rescheduled with international banks like HSBC and Lloyds...
Are all these dreams which are going to vanish or is it trick being played by the Dubai ruling family ?
Time will tell. The higher you are, the harder will be the fall !!

The arrested customs officials at the Chennai airport need to be tried and given model, exemplary punishment. This evasion of paying customs duty and tax is a great drain on the Indian govt revenue, all because of the dirty mindset of a few customs officials who want to get rich soon. Little do they realise tht alll this money will finally only spoil them..
The customs dept needs to be cleansed, top to down, hope the CBI makes more such arrests across the country's airports and instil some discipline and values in the dept. !!
Like the Police Dept, these days it is very derogatory to even mention that one is employed in the Customs dept.. The common man looks down so much on these people !!

The Supreme Court appointed Central Empowerment Committee could not have come up with a more strongly worded report on the illegal mining activity happening in the obalapuram mining area, bordering AP and Karnataka. Run by the politically strong Bellary Reddy brothers and Jaganmohan Reddy, son of the late YSR of AP, the report by the SC and the CBI enquiry ordered by AP govt will send shivers down the spine of the mining thugs (respectable ministers in the Karnataka Govt..) Yediyurappa must be gleeful with joy at the curious turn of events. Reddy brothers cannot find any help from Sushma Swaraj, their political mother and messiah...
Illegally appropriating state property and living off it, throwing weight around, is not only a crime, it works against natural justice and amounts to robbing in daylight. While poor people are imprisoned when they do small thefts, here respectable thugs from the govt., rape the govt of crores of rupees of revenue and walk scot free. What an irony ?
The govt needs to act fast and as per the CEC report, recover not only the costs of iron ore taken out, but impose model punishment with a hefty penalty and imprisonment, so that such daylight robberies re not repeated in future, by anybody, either from the ruling party or the opposition.
The hands of the govt and the judiciary needs to be strengthened. The representatives of the people should come forward and show they really care to fight corruption . It is hoped all political parties will help the CBI and SC to stop this robbery by ministers in the Karnataka govt.
The first time I visited Raj Bhavan was on Gandhi Jayanthi Day, Oct 2, 2008. Jobin also was with me.
Some months back I came to know that Bayikutty ammamma's son, Lt Navin from Indian Navy is joining the Raj Bhavan as the ADC (Aide De Camp) of the Governor, H R Bharadwaj. When babychayan gabe me a call on Thusday evening, while I was shoping, it was big surprise, both of them were in Bangalaore Raj Bhavan wand wanted to visit us on Friday.
Accordingly on Friday, both of them and Navin came in the official Raj Bhavan car. They were here for an hour and more and returned.
Accordinglu we alo gave them a return visit on Saturday. We went to the fruit market, bought some fruits and at 4.45 PM left home to Raj Bhavan. We reached there by 6.30 PM.
Navin took us around and showe the majestic halls. the meeting room, office room , the lawns etc.. It was a majestic sight to see. We were back home at 10.30 PM.
Next sunday, we are planning to ask Navin to come to the Orthodox Church, to be introduced to our priests.

Sachin Tendulkar silences the hate master (paper tiger, Bal Thackeray) by claiming that he is first an Indian and then a Marathi. Mumbai is for Indians and not only for Marathis .. Mumbai was made by the efforts of people from all over India and not just the Marathis ..
It is very difficult to understand why Thackeray is claiming Mumbai as his family property only to be used/misused by his sons and nephews.. Shouldn't regional chauvinism and parochialism too be branded as criminal misdemeanour ? It ends up in physical violence inflicted on some innocents and is basically disruptive in nature and acting against the integrity of the nation.
Will this man who is yet to come to his senses after the shocking electoral defeat last week, signalling that he no more represents the Marathi Manoos, stop his senseless rants and try to realise the damage caused by his statements ?
Will the media too stop taking this up, giving unnecessary importance to an anti-social element ?

We know of limited inventory costs, ie. Item costs, holding costs and shortage costs. In some cases, we also discuss about obsolescence costs.
HP did a study of its inventory related costs around end 90s and beginning 2000. To its dismay HP found that inventory costs were almost equal to the PC business' total operating margin and the conventional inventory holding costs accounted for just 10 % of its total inventory related costs. In a global scenario with global suppliers and global customers, there were some other interesting costs to be worried about.
In the scale of inventory related costs and presented in descending order , first comes the Component Devaluation Costs. When prices dropped for excess components which were with the company, the distribution channel and in the pipeline with the transporters, the company incurs a devaluation cost at all these points in the SC.
The Price Protection Cost is the cost incurred by the company when the prices have dropped after the items have been shipped to the retailers. All unsold items with the retailers are compensated for the difference in costs and sold in the markets.
The third important cost is the Product Return cost. For all unsold items, HP gives a 100 % return to the distributors.
The fourth important component is the Obsolescence costs. This is the cost of writing off the cost of unsold items in the inventory, after the life of the products has ended.
The costs listed above accounted for almost 90 % of the inventory related costs incurred by HP. It would be interesting trying to find how to counter these excessive inventory costs.

The Right To Information Act has been a very powerful act in Indian history. It has been revealing lot of facts from different sources..
The amount spent by Karnataka CM Yediyurappa to renovate his house was Rs 1.7 crores. And during the floods last month he was seen asking for donations from the people going around with a begging bowl ..
What a big disconnect in what these leaders preach and what they practice !!
A major embarrassment for BJP after the recently concluded unethical truce between the mining thugs and the CM ( for BJP to remain in power !!)
